Earthing and bonding – There are several differences between bonding and grounding. The key purpose of bonding is to reduce the risk of an electrical shock in case of a fault in the supply of an electrical installation, and people touch two individual metal parts. Bonding
We offer two types of bonding which are used generally:
Main earthing bonding – two different conductors connect iron pipes (water, gas or oil) from the interior of buildings to the main earthing terminal of an electrical installation.
Supplementary bonding – accessible items of metal parts of electrical equipment are connected by two different colored conductors (i.e. heated towel rails) to accessible metal parts that aren’t electrical (i.e. pipes).
Earthing
The aim of earthing is to protect your electrical equipment and human beings by discharging electrical current to the earth. So, if you have a fault in your electrical installation or there is an exposed metal part which you can touch by accident, you are at risk of getting an electrical shock, since the current might use your body as a conductor from the metal to the earth. Earthing will provide a safe conductor for fault current and deploy the stream to earth.
Both procedures have to be performed by professional electrical conductor to make sure that all is due to requirements of BS7671 and, of course is safe and efficient.
